چکیده

In this document a new approach on tuning frequency estimation based on circular statistics is presented. Two methods are introduced: the calculation of the tuning frequency over an entire audio piece, and the estimation of an adapting reference frequency for a single voice. The results for the tuning frequency estimation look very good for audio pieces where the dominant voices are tuned close to the equal-temperament scale and exhibit only moderate frequency dynamics. For the analysis of popular western music, the method does not achieve very robust results due to the strong frequency dynamics of the human singing voice. Nevertheless, the method could be improved by excluding the singing voice from the calculation taking only the accompaniment into account. The main advantage of the proposed method lies especially in the easy computation of an adaptive reference frequency using an exponential moving average. This adaptive reference can for example be used in the quantization of the singing voice into a note representation.

Radiation Characteristics of Circular Microstrip Patch Antenna with and Without Air Gap Using Neuro-Spectral Computation Approach

In this paper, we propose an artificial neural network (ANN) in conjunction with spectral domain formulation for fast and accurate determination of the resonant frequency and bandwidth of circular microstrip antenna with and without air gap. This neurospectral approach reduces the problem complexity. The results obtained from the neural model are in very good agreement with the experimental res...

Sparse DOA Estimation of Wideband Sound Sources Using Circular Harmonics

Sparse signal models are in the focus of recent developments in narrowband DOA estimation. Applying these methods to localizing audio sources, however, is challenging due to the wideband nature of the signals. The common approach of processing all frequency bands separately and fusing the results is costly and can introduce errors in the solution. We show how these problems can be overcome by d...

Estimation of harpsichord inharmonicity and temperament from musical recordings.

The inharmonicity of vibrating strings can easily be estimated from recordings of isolated tones. Likewise, the tuning system (temperament) of a keyboard instrument can be ascertained from isolated tones by estimating the fundamental frequencies corresponding to each key of the instrument. This paper addresses a more difficult problem: the automatic estimation of the inharmonicity and temperame...

Tuning extension of a Difference-Frequency generation up to 100 nm using V-shaped external-cavity for the pump laser

In this research, tunability of a commercial diode laser has extended to about more than ± 11 nm using a V-shaped external-cavity fabricated around the laser. Although under normal condition it can be tuned up to about ± 4 nm just by changing its temperature and injection current. Such modified diode laser has then used in a difference-frequency generation (DFG) experimental setup as pump sourc...

SURE-tuned tapering estimation of large covariance matrices

Bandable covariance matrices are often used to model the dependence structure of variables that follow a nature order. It has been shown that the tapering covariance estimator attains the optimal minimax rates of convergence for estimating large bandable covariance matrices. The estimation risk critically depends on the choice of the tapering parameter. We develop a Stein’s Unbiased Risk Estimat...
